Jargon Is Now Available on the App Store

Jargon is now available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store.

Jargon began as my offline reader for the Jargon File, the dictionary of early hacker language and culture. After releasing the Android version through F-Droid and Google Play, I built a native iOS version. Apple has approved it, and anyone with a compatible iPhone or iPad can download it now.

The entire dictionary stays on the device

Jargon includes more than 2,300 entries. You can browse them alphabetically, search terms and definitions, follow cross-references, save favorites, or open a random entry with "Surprise me."

The dictionary ships inside the app, so every feature works without a network connection. Jargon requests no permissions and has no accounts, ads, or analytics. Searches and favorites stay on the device.

The first App Store release requires iOS 17 or later. The app source remains available under the GNU General Public License v3, while the Jargon File content keeps its CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
